VPN for PC: install a client, paste a link, check

A laptop does not need the vendor's own program. A free client plus one subscription link covers it.

What a laptop needs

Short version: put a free client on the machine, feed it the subscription link that the Telegram bot gives you, choose a server and switch on. The service has no program of its own to download. It issues a VLESS subscription link, and clients read that link: Hiddify on Windows, macOS and Linux, and Happ on Windows and macOS. That is how a laptop, a phone and a tablet can share one link, with no device limit to count.

The trial runs ten days and costs nothing, with no account and no card, so you can find out whether it works on your own machine before paying anything.

Setting up on a computer

  1. Start the Telegram bot on your phone or in Telegram for desktop and ask for the trial link.

  2. Download a client from its official project page, not from a file-sharing site. Beware of search results that promise a free full version of a paid product: those are the ones that carry unwanted software.

  3. Open the client and add a subscription from the clipboard.

  4. Select a location. Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Dubai and Singapore are available.

  5. Connect, then check your address in the browser. If it changed, the tunnel is carrying your traffic.

Which machines and systems

Windows 10 and 11 are covered by the mainstream clients, and macOS has an app too. Linux users usually pick a client with a graphical interface, or a command-line one if they prefer it. A Chromebook is a different case: it can run Android apps in many models, which makes the Android route the simplest. Each of these has its own page here, so this one only points the way.

An older system such as Windows 7 is its own problem, because clients stop supporting old releases. Plan on a newer system if you can.

The shared laptop at a hostel

A shared laptop needs a little care. Install the client under your own user profile, add the link there, and remove it when you leave the room. The subscription link is a key: if it stays in a shared folder, whoever opens that folder can use your plan.

Do not run it on a lab computer where you are not allowed to install software. College networks often have a policy, and a lab machine is the college's property.

Browser add-ons are not the same thing

An add-on for a browser only moves that browser's traffic. Your mail program, the update service of the system and the games on the machine go around it. If you want everything on the laptop to travel through the tunnel, the client route is the right one, and an add-on is only worth considering for a quick, narrow job.

Choosing, and a note on who is writing

When you compare ways of getting a laptop connected, judge by what you can verify: where the client comes from, whether it is maintained, what it asks to install, and whether traffic stops if the tunnel drops. Since the service behind this page is ours and is sold, read the criteria as a checklist for any option, ours included, and not as an endorsement of ours alone. Who wrote it? An AI tool gave us the outline, and an editor finished the wording.

Using a VPN is subject to the law where you are and to the terms of the sites you open. Both vary and change, and following them is your responsibility.

Questions

Do I need the vendor's own app on Windows or Mac?

No. The service has no app of its own. A free client that reads a subscription link does the job, and the bot gives you that link.

Does the laptop need a link of its own, apart from the phone?

No. Put the same link into each client; the number of devices is not restricted.

What do I do if the client shows connected but pages do not load?

Switch to another location, then try mobile data to rule out the Wi-Fi network. Some college networks block unusual connections, and that is not something the client can fix.

Is a free client safe to download?

Download from the project's own page or a recognised store, and avoid repacks. A client that wants more permissions than a tunnel needs is a reason to stop.

Does the trial work on a laptop too?

Yes. The ten-day trial link works in the same way on a computer as on a phone.

Will I get an Indian address on my laptop?

No. Your laptop will show an address from one of the five foreign locations; the service runs nothing inside India.

Borrow it free before you pay

No card, no account. If it fails on your connection, you are no worse off.
